“At Great Diamond Partners, we are entirely focused on the success of our stakeholders. Guiding clients, empowering employees, and having a positive impact on the community in a way that is meaningful to each is what will define the next generation of wealth management firms.”

As CEO and Founding Partner of Great Diamond Partners, Steven Tenney is responsible for strategic growth and partnering relationships, advocating for stakeholders, and directing the firm’s investment strategy. He believes the gold standard of wealth management is found at the intersection of empathy and technology™.

It’s probably no surprise that Steve made his career in the financial world. Both his father and grandfather were respected financial advisors. What Steve learned from their examples was that the best work revolved around helping people overcome challenges – and sometimes what they needed had nothing to do with money.

Steve’s career started in London as a research assistant for Morgan Stanley Asset Management. He went on to State Street Bank and eventually to UBS Financial Services where he merged his practice with his father’s, and met Joe, Helen, and Jack. The four colleagues realized they share the belief that there is a better way to support the goals of the families and individuals in their care, which led them to establish Great Diamond Partners.

Steve is a forward-thinker who is always looking for ways to build connections and pursue opportunities on behalf of his team, his clients, and the next generation. As GDP’s champion and visionary, Steve is focused on promoting, building, and communicating the firm’s vision as well as advocating for all of its members and their successes.

Steve is also passionate about Lunch with 4 Interesting People, a Portland-based networking group that he developed and now nurtures. The group of business leaders meets monthly to discuss the challenges that go along with serving in leadership positions. One of the core purposes of Lunch with 4 Interesting people mirrors that of GDP – to encourage connections between community and opportunity.

Steve lives in Yarmouth, Maine with his wife, Christine. Their photographer son Nick lives in Bozeman, Montana, where he graduated from Montana State University. Their daughter, Leah, splits her time between Massachusetts and Florida and is pursuing a career in interior design and her passion for dressage.

Community Involvement

As a community builder, Steve is involved with several nonprofits with a strong interest in programs that keep kids active. He serves on the Investment Committee for the Castine Historical Society and supports Portland Community Squash and the Hatch Community Youth Fund, which provides recreational opportunities for the youth of Brooksville, Castine, and Penobscot.

Three Things to Know About Steve:

  • My grandfather, Gilman Churchill, was in the investment business during the Great Depression until he retired in 1972. My father, Gil Tenney, did the same from 1974 to 2001. When you combine our experience, we have well over 100 years of working with clients and the common thread is relationships. All three of us care(d) deeply for those we interacted with and advised. While I did not have the opportunity to learn from my grandfather, my father still has a tremendous influence on my work today.

  • Sports have always been a big part of my life, although I favor those that include water rather than those that involve balls. I enjoy a mix of rowing, sailing, swimming, and trail running, and have competed in both national and world championship events. These activities provide a wonderful escape for me as the thrill that both training and competing provide.

  • If I had to identify my superpower, it would be dyslexia. What others may see as a challenge, I see as an advantage, as it allows me to see connections where others don’t, which leads to opportunities. Unaware that this impacted my learning style until I was 35, I developed coping mechanisms that have served me well – hard work, organizational skills, and discipline.

“My education, unique strengths, and personal values have found a home in a career that allows me to deliver objective and unbiased advice designed to improve my clients’ lives. Approaching 30 years of experience, I relish serving others and strive for continuous improvement in assisting people to reach their life goals.”

As a Founding Partner and the Chief Planning Officer, Joe leads the financial planning and insurance strategies focus for Great Diamond Partners. Joe always knew he would land in a career where he could help people. He started working in New York City in municipal finance, then moved to Citibank Private Bank, expanding his experience into investment services. In 2000, he joined UBS in Portland, Maine, where over the course of the next 19 years, he acquired valuable financial planning experience while also gaining clarity about how he wanted to apply these skills to better serve his clients.

While at UBS, Joe had the opportunity to work with his future partners, Steve, Helen, and Jack. Joe’s philosophy of working with clients is to become deeply engaged with them, whether he is sitting in their living room, or speaking to them by phone, and it was important to him to work with others who feel the same way. Together, this core group of four founded Great Diamond Partners in 2019 with a shared vision of how to serve their client’s best interests above all others. Based on the founders’ common goals, a spirit of communication and collaboration is still very much a part of Great Diamond Partners today. Joe strives to create clarity and reduce anxiety for his clients as they navigate life’s challenges and reach their financial goals. He accomplishes this by listening intently and providing them with a roadmap to reach their objectives.

Joe lives in Yarmouth, Maine, with his wife Tania and their two children, Tasha and Josef, both in college, and their precocious Pembroke Welsh Corgi, Moxie.

Community Involvement

Joe’s life is enriched by volunteerism. He is a Big Brother and the past president of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southern Maine. Joe and his wife passionately support the Good Shepherd Food Bank and Portland Ovations. He is planning to devote his time to the Catholic Charities of Maine in the future.

Three Things to Know About Joe:

  • Volunteerism is deeply important to me – I learned by watching my parents give their time, talent, and treasure. I believe strongly in giving back to clients and the community.

  • I see my role as an advisor as threefold – as a planner, counselor, and educator. At different times in the life of my advisory relationships, I emphasize some of the characteristics of each discipline, but the common thread is being available to help with whatever needs my clients have in the moment.

  • I believe that your life is more than your money or wealth. I’m here to navigate life goals beyond just the financials and build a deep bond with you and your family.

“I love getting to know my clients and becoming a part of their lives. I view financial planning as more than investing and saving for the future; it’s also about enjoying today. I’m here to help you live your best life, and that doesn’t just mean saving enough for a happy retirement. It’s also about enjoying yourself now.”

Helen grew up on an island in mid-coast Maine and attended high school, college, and graduate school in the place she considers to be the best place to live, work, and raise a family. After graduating from college, Helen bought and ran her own small business. She operated a statewide waste and recycling hauling firm in Maine for eight years before selling the business in 1998. Helen’s own experience of running a family business enriches her work with business owners, families, as well as investment clients, and adds both a unique perspective and deep insight. Helen’s ability to build relationships shows in her everyday interactions with clients – one of her goals is to make their day a little better after having spoken with her.

After selling her business, Helen went on to receive her Master’s Degree in Business and began a career in wealth management. Over the next 22 years, she gained valuable knowledge and experience at several global wealth management firms as well as the opportunity to work with future partners Steve, Joe, and Jack. In 2019, Helen was looking for a better, more personal way to provide financial advising services to clients as well as to channel her expertise and passion into building something new, local, and independent. At this time, Helen, along with Steve, Joe, and Jack, began building what is now GDP. From that point on, Helen became an integral part of the GDP leadership team, leading with compassion and helping to define who they are today.

Helen lives in Portland with her husband, Charlie Tryder, and two dogs, Buddy, a Dogue de Bordeaux, and Buster, a Labrador Retriever. She has three grown children – Wyatt, a graduate of Arizona State, who is also a member of the GDP team, Blaine, a graduate of the University of Vermont, who works at a Maine-based technology company, and Sydney, also a graduate of the University of Vermont, who has a Master’s Degree in Social Work and works as a family counselor in Falmouth.

Community Involvement

Helen currently serves on the Board of Directors for ProsperityME, whose mission is to bring financial success to both individuals new to our country and those struggling to build wealth. She is also a Board Member of the Maine Recovery Fund, which provides community support to people in recovery. Previous volunteer experience includes working with the Maine League of Women Voters, United Way of Greater Portland, and The Maine Community Foundation to assist in allocating funding to local non-profits.

Three Things to Know About Helen:

  • I am, as of August of 2022, a grandmother for the first time and feel like the luckiest “Marmie” on earth.

  • I’m a novice, but enthusiastic, oil painter.

  • Although firmly rooted in Maine, I have traveled around the world (literally) spending time exploring the US and abroad in Europe and South America.

"I enjoy working at Great Diamond because of the wonderful families we’re fortunate to call our clients. Being able to deliver in the most important moments of our clients’ lives is critical. Whether it’s losing a spouse, a divorce, the sale of a business, or another pivotal life moment, our clients rely on us to be there when it matters the most. We listen and advocate for our clients like they’re a member of our own family.”

As a Founding Partner and Portfolio Manager at Great Diamond Partners team, Jack plays an active role with individuals and families, helping them craft plans to reach their financial goals, while also contributing to the firm’s overall vision and strategy. As a Portfolio Manager, Jack works on the investment team to develop and manage client portfolios. Jack sees his role both as a trusted confidante and an advocate for his clients as they navigate some of the biggest moments of their lives. Jack’s philosophy of working with clients is one centered around a foundation of trust and keen listening. Jack wants his clients to feel that they can approach him with any issue and that he will be there to help and advise them.

A lifelong resident of Maine, Jack attended Falmouth High School and Bowdoin College. Jack remembers that he always had an interest in capital markets but didn’t think about a career in wealth management until he had the opportunity to work as an intern with his current partners, Steve and Joe. Jack learned by example from watching Joe, Steve, and other talented mentors as they interacted with their clients with genuine care and understanding.

After graduating from college, Jack worked at Bainco International Investors in Boston, working his way up through a variety of positions including portfolio strategist. He then worked as a financial advisor at UBS Wealth Management alongside Steve, Joe, and Helen.

Jack wanted to create something new from scratch that represented his values and those of the other members of the GDP leadership team – a strong commitment to clients and the community, as well as a client-centered approach to financial planning. He combines his excellent listening skills with his extensive experience to make clients feel heard and cared for.

Jack lives in Falmouth with his wife, Becky, and daughter, Beatrice.

Three Things to Know About Jack:

    • I enjoy playing golf and volunteer as the coordinator of the Barbara Bush Children’s Hospital Open Golf Tournament each year.

    • I love staying active by running and skiing.

    • I like to cook, although I still consider myself an amateur, or as I prefer to say, a lifelong learner, of culinary arts.

“It has always been clear to me that Great Diamond’s commitment to clients, the community, and to each other is second to none. I knew that there was no better place to continue my growth, as a professional and as a person.”

Having grown up in Maine, Wyatt chose to attend Arizona State University and studied Economics with the dream of entering the wealth management business. Before joining Great Diamond Partners in 2021, Wyatt had built 6 years of industry experience in Arizona and Massachusetts, but his love of Maine and the desire to be closer to family brought him “home.”

Financial planning combines two aspects of work Wyatt enjoys most – people and planning. He appreciates getting to know his clients and the long-term relationships that develop with them over time. He also enjoys the planning aspects of his role as Associate Advisor, such as finding creative and unique solutions for clients’ challenges. Since joining GDP, one of Wyatt’s roles has been to work with Next Gen clients and he has taken a strong interest in sustainable and impact investing.

Wyatt leads data and technology efforts at the firm and helps to create centralized planning practices and to support business development efforts. He is also pursuing certification as a Certified Financial Planner and plans to sit for the exam shortly.

In addition to playing and coaching soccer, Wyatt enjoys spending time with his family, or hiking in the White Mountains.

Wyatt’s commitment to his local community extends beyond the workday. He volunteers as a soccer coach for youth camps, including Camp Susan Curtis, a program for Maine children facing economic hardship. He also runs his own amateur men’s team based out of Portland.

Three things to know about Wyatt

    •  “I have been playing soccer since I was 4 years old. It started as a way to spend time with all my best friends – I grew up in a small town and we all played together through all levels of grade school. I began following Manchester United when I was around 10 years old and I’ve always appreciated the team’s philosophy and culture. I would love to translate some of my experience and knowledge into a middle or high school coaching opportunity.”

    • “If I could relive any day of my life, it would be my brother Blaine’s wedding, hands down. It was intimate and low-key, but such a lively celebration at the same time. I have never been happier, laughing and tearing it up on the dance floor, surrounded by my absolute favorite people, and knowing that Blaine was starting an amazing new chapter in his life. I value the relationships I have with my family above everything else.”

    • “I love a physical challenge, especially when it’s outdoors and with an adventurous twist. I’ve surfed in California, hiked in Colorado, and completed the Rock ‘n’ Roll 1/2 Marathon in Arizona. My most memorable hike was The Path of the Gods, a clifftop trail running along Italy’s Amalfi Coast. Often referred to as the best hike in the world, I can confirm the views of the Tyrrhenian Sea and the village of Positano are truly breathtaking.”

"Moving into the world of wealth management was daunting, but the team at Great Diamond has been amazingly informative and patient. It’s exciting to be a part of a team that puts individuals first - both clients and co-workers."

In her role as Office Coordinator, Bevin manages the daily operations in the office and provides support to all team members. Her leadership style, skills in customer service and conflict resolution, and her attention to detail ensure an exceptional experience for clients and visitors.

Bevin brings over 8 years of management experience in the hospitality industry, leading all front office operations and team members and serving as liaison to all departments, vendors and guests while at Holiday Inn by the Bay in Portland, ME.

Originally from the northwestern suburbs of Chicago, Bevin chose to attend Maine College of Art in Portland, imagining a quintessential New England coastal town. Upon arrival, she was surprised to find a working port city, but soon fell in love with the walkability, community, and cultural offerings. She now calls Portland home and lives with her husband Dan and their two cats: Marge, a fluffy white and orange longhair, and Hendrix, a tuxedo shorthair with a mustache.

Outside of the office, Bevin loves discovering all Maine has to offer – from snowshoeing in Rangeley to staying in a converted sardine factory in Lubec to taking the Great Diamond Island ferry and enjoying build-your-own shaved ice at the Crown Jewel. Her love of adventure extends beyond our borders, with dreams to one day explore Ireland and to celebrate a postponed honeymoon in Belize.

Three things to know about Bevin

    1. “From a very young age, my favorite pastime was drawing, and I aspired to be an illustrator for comic books or children’s books. But through my coursework at MECA, I found printmaking to be the best medium for my artistic talents. Now, a passion in my spare time is linocutting and block printing on fabric.”

    2. “I have an impressive collection of Disney Tiki mugs, combining my love of all things Disney and my enthusiasm for anything with a Tiki concept. I even had a Tiki-themed wedding!”

    3. “My favorite spot in Portland is the Arcadia National Bar, which recently moved from its Preble Street location into the former Port City Music Hall on Congress Street. The new space allows for even more classic arcade games and pinball machines – it’s such a fun night out with Dan and friends. When the next season starts, I plan to join Arcadia’s chapter of Belles & Chimes, an international collective of women’s pinball leagues.”

“Great Diamond Partners allows for a more personalized and intimate client experience that you won’t find at other firms – I’ve never felt more supported in providing exceptional client service.”

As Client Relationship Specialist, Andrew is responsible for client servicing and relationship management needs, including account administration, portfolio reporting, retirement matters and client education. He also supports the team’s investment management effort.

Andrew brings over ten years of financial industry experience to the team, working at UBS Financial Services in Newtown, PA, Philadelphia, PA and Portland, ME before supporting the launch of Great Diamond Partners in 2019. Prior to his career in financial services, Andrew developed valuable client service skills in his management role with Brooks Brothers.

Andrew is from rural Berks County, Pennsylvania and spent many childhood summers visiting his grandparents and family in Waynesboro, Pennsylvania, right on the Mason-Dixon line. As an adult working in Philadelphia, Andrew quickly realized that the ‘big city’ wasn’t a great fit for him and he strived to land somewhere that felt more like home. With its breathtaking scenery, rugged coastlines and serene lakes, Maine felt like the perfect spot.

Andrew now resides in Gray, with his wife, Meg and his two cats, Penny and Eliza, and his dog, Gertie. He spends many weekends renovating and restoring his 19th century farmhouse and barn. In the summer, he tends to a small vegetable patch and pretends he is a farmer. Andrew is a die-hard Philadelphia Flyers fan and would love to play in an adult hockey league if he could just improve his skating skills.

Three things to know about Andrew

    1. “I grew up on family farms in south-central PA and am a frustrated farmer at heart. I used to cut out pictures of cows from my grandfather’s ‘Hoard’s Dairyman’ magazine to play with and I can identify almost every breed of cow.”

    2. “I have become quite the whiskey aficionado over the years – I prefer Irish whiskey but I’m game to try a good scotch or bourbon. I’ve toured many distilleries, but my favorite was the Jameson Distillery in Midleton, County Cork, Ireland.”

    3. “I have an extensive record collection, ranging from 1920s jazz to rockabilly to classic rock and roll. It’s on my bucket list to visit the Sun Records Studio in Memphis, TN and Johnny Cash’s boyhood home in Dyess, AR.”

"Independence allows Great Diamond Partners to shape each client experience and prioritize their needs. The feelings of family and inclusivity weave through our work as a team and extend to our clients and community."

In her role as Client Relationship Specialist, Lisa is responsible for client solutions, operations and account administration. Her skills in process creation, research and complex problem-solving allow for operational efficiencies across the firm and support compliance regulations and reporting requirements.

A seasoned expert in the financial services industry, Lisa brings over 30 years of experience in operations and client services at Key Trust Company, Kidder Peabody, Paine Webber, UBS Financial Services and Aries Wealth Management in Portland, ME.

Lisa has a large family with French-Canadian roots. She now lives in Westbrook and regularly spends time with her 3 sisters, 1 brother, 10 nieces/nephews and 4 great-nieces/nephews.

Outside of the office, Lisa enjoys photography; reading popular fiction, psychological thrillers and biographies; and teaching the next generation traditional recipes passed down through her family (she makes the BEST pork pie). Pine Point Beach off-season is a favorite spot to find solitude and she is rarely seen without Baxter, her 6 yr-old terrier mix who she affectionately calls “the love of my life and the bane of my existence.”

Three things to know about Lisa

    1. “I love traveling the world and have visited Spain, England, France and Canada. Next on my list are Iceland, Italy, Greece and the Dalmation Coast. I rarely set plans beyond the first day or two and prefer to explore and plan as I go, talking to locals for dining, entertainment and sight-seeing suggestions.”

    2. “I’m a huge sports fan and while I have a fondness for New England teams the most fun is attending high school and college games rooting on my nieces and nephews. I happily watch any team and any sport.”

    3. “Most people think I’m very serious and private, but in reality I have a wicked sense of humor with touches of snark and sarcasm and I love to connect with like-minded individuals. Shows with very dry humor, like ‘The Office’, tend to be my favorites. I also enjoy watching DIY shows and believe my experience from this allows me to build and decorate a house in a week.”
